Lapid to Haredim "want VAT reduction? Enlist"

Finance Minister Yair Lapid calls this morning (Thursday), on young Haredim to enlist in order to "get the VAT reduction" in purchasing a first apartment.

On his Facebook page the Minister of Finance refers to the VAT reduction that he plans to give young people: "lowering VAT on new dwellings is not a goal, it is a means. The goal was and remains the same: to lower housing prices," he writes, "There are economists, politicians and interest holders who oppose lowering VAT. It's just fine, since lowering the VAT is not for economists, politicians and those who have interests.

"It is designed for middle-class young people serving in the military, working hard, who raise their children with love and can not make ends meet. This week for the first time they have reason to believe they can afford to buy an apartment.

"These young people now know that we meant every word when we said that, unlike the past, the state is ready now to lose billions of shekels to lower housing prices. Lowering VAT is not our only step. It's just part of a detailed plan which will appear at the upcoming housing cabinet after we worked on it for months with dozens of professionals from the Ministry of Finance and the private sector. The program will increase the supply of housing to make it easier for tenants, make it difficult for speculators, and lower the prices.

"For the haredi young people who read us," Lapid said "contrary to all the abuses, the program certainly includes you, and we would be very pleased to give you too this significant relief. Everything you need to do to get it, is to join the army or civil service."
