Seven Molotov cocktails were thrown last night (Sunday) at the synagogue in Zaporozhke the country's southeast.

Rabbi of the city Nahum Erentreu said Molotov cocktails were thrown at the synagogue by four masked youths, returning from a demonstration conducted by the anti-Russian - fascist organization "Swaboda", with the participation of more than a thousand people, carrying among other things swastikas.

"Luckily there was no one praying at that time inside the synagogue, and the last person, the shaliach Michael Oishie, left the building a few minutes before the event.
"The police indeed arrived, but the criminals had already managed to escape. Political leaders in the city who had heard about the incident came to express their solidarity with the Jewish community," said the Rabbi, and made it clear that no one is able to scare the Jewish community, and they all continue to come to pray three times a day.

He said the synagogue is secured for 24 hours a day by an electric fence and security 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This synagogue is one to which about eight hundred people come on holidays and the Days of Awe. The Jewish local community is estimated at 10,000 Jews living across the province."
