Back from Lizhensk: Jews were forced to bring in Shabbos on plane

A group of Haredi Jews who returned on Friday from Lizansk, Poland were forced to bring in Shabbon on a plane.

This is the flight of the "Delta" airline which was loaded with American Jews returning from the tomb in Lizhensk and was supposed to land in JF Kennedy airport at one o'clock.

Yanky German resident of Boro Park was on the flight and said: "We were supposed to land at JFK at around one pm, suddenly we see the plane circling around the field a few times and flying away from it. Later we found out that weather conditions over Kennedy airport did not allow landing and all flights which arrived were referred to other airports.

"They turned us to the airport in Syracuse, New York. We asked the pilot to get off the plane, as we explained to him that we are pressed for time. The captain told us that we could not get off the plane and we will have to wait until we get to JFK. Meanwhile we called a Posek who guided us how to act.

"At six-thirty we landed at JFK, on the field an avrech from Boro Park was waiting for us who had already reserved rooms for us at the airport and had prepared food and equipment for Shabbos in the rooms. A gentile transferred to the hotel our luggage which was on the flight and so we passed the Shabbos. My friends who returned from Lizensk on other flights told me that they got stuck in Baltimore, and at the airport in Maine."

The "Mitaskim" organization - is a voluntary organization of local Haredim in Maine and Baltimore who attended to the Haredi passengers who were stranded at different airports for Shabbos. The volunteers arranged for those who got stuck kosher food and lodging for Shabbos.
