Religious Zionism returns a sharp attack to the words of Hagaon R' Ben Zion Mutzafi, who called Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, "the seed of Amalek" as well as omitting the title of 'Rabbi' regarding Rabbi Haim Druckman in Yated Ne'eman newspaper on the day of the prayer rally at the gates of Jerusalem.
In an interview this afternoon to Channel 7, Rabbi Chaim Druckman, head of the Bnei Akiva Yeshivas said: "This is very serious. Even if there are disagreements – one should respect each other. I am ashamed to even say it, but the starting point of each is that the holy Torah is timeless and there can be differences of opinion, and certainly each one insists, but degrading someone who does not think like you, this is extremely serious."
Rabbi Druckman brought the words of the Shulchan Aruch against degradation of talmidei chachamim and the definition of such contempt as 'Dvar Hashem baza', "What kind of way is it that if a particular talmid chacham does not think like you then finished? He's not a talmid chacham? This is unparalleled distortion. Our public has to know the truth. Every little haredi activist who is elected to the Knesset is immediately titled a Rav, and someone who is really a Rav, in the haredi media is not a Rav at all. Is this not hair-raising, such an attitude and such behavior? The Haredi public is incited by its media which has great power to influence it".
When asked why he thinks Torah people responsible for what is written in the Shulchan Aruch act that way, he remains unanswered, "It really hurts me a lot. I must say it's hard. I have no answer for it, but one should not ignite a fire in response to the behavior of the Haredim, but to protest against the anti-Torah, anti-halachic law, anti-human and anti-moral behavior."
Deputy Minister of Religious Services Eli Ben Dahan from the Jewish Home also attacked in strong words the line of remarks at the opening of a vocational course at Chevra Kadisha workers at Ariel University today. Ben-Dahan said: "The public which is here, we all are working together for one purpose to sanctify G-d's name, to cause the services of religion to be beloved on Am Yisrael."
"I was very upset at the sayings over the last two days about Rabbi Aviner, a Rabbi who is the biggest disseminator of Torah there is, "evil and sinful, the seed of Amalek', these statements which do not belong. Saying of rabbis that they are beasts and dumb - what are those utterances and these words."
"These statements should not be said, and I hope that Chief Rabbi Lau sitting here, will say it in his voice. We must all work together and not cause a Chilul Hashem. These sayings cause only a Chilul Hashem."
