Disaster at Maaynei Hayeshua: A woman died abruptly

Disaster at the Maaynei HaYeshua hospital in Bnei Brak : woman aged 38 , was found a little while ago lifeless in the hospital toilet.

This woman gave birth on Monday at the hospital, and was supposed to be released home this morning. Since this morning she was not feeling well , the doctors decided to keep her for another day for follow-up.

In the afternoon, they wanted to give her something, but she was not in her room. After searching in the hospital, she was identified as dead in the hospital toilet.

The woman is a resident of the central cities, and a mother to six children.

Spokesman at Maaynei HaYeshua said: "This morning the 38 year old woman from Department of Obstetrics of the Medical Center at Maaynei HaYeshua was found dead, after rather prolonged CPR which was not successful her death was unfortunately determined."

Prof. Motti Ravid, Director at Maaynei HaYeshua Medical Center, addressed the event and told Behadrey Haredim that earlier this week the 38- year-old woman gave birth to her sixth child, and she was walking and feeling well.

"As we know the mother was healthy, normal birth went without complications. On the second day after birth she felt strong abdominal pain, underwent tests and the reason for the pain was not found. Later, the pain passed."
"This morning the mother ate, and walked in the department without fever. She was checked by Director of the Department, and he didn’t find any unusual finds."

The original plan was to be released from hospital this morning, but following the pain she felt, it was decided to leave her for follow up. In the afternoon she was not found, and the nurses were looking for her. After some time she was found dead in the toilet located closest to her room. "

Professor Ravid noted also that there was nothing that gave a hint of what happened. "In my opinion, the reason for the sudden deaths is pulmonary embolism."

Professor Ravid also notes that "the death rate of women in labor in the country is 6-7 births for every hundred thousand. Since Maaynei HaYeshua hospital was founded there were more than 140,000 births and this is the first death case."

"All the staff is overwhelmed and we are trying to learn and understand as much as possible what happened and what led to this sudden death. We have gotten used to the fact that everything goes smoothly, but nothing lasts forever."
