Trying to save: Haredim returned to Shaked committee
As revealed in Behadrey Haredim, Haredi MKs decided to return to Shaked Committee • The main reason: serious reservations raised by MK Ofer Shelah, that haredim that the army would not be interested in them will not be considered quotas, and goals set by law and not by government decision • Exercise or Fold? As revealed this morning (Wednesday) in Behadrey Haredim , the ultra-Orthodox MKs returned to hearings of the Shaked Committee.
The reason for the decision made to return to discussions, is due to new reservations raised by MK Ofer Shelah , who were even more serious than the original government law .
These are two major sections: one that Shelah demanded that haredim that the army does not want to recruit them – won't be included in the objectives. Reservations have not been included in the draft law.
In addition, Shelah demanded the goals be set by law, not a government decision.
Likud representative in the committee, Zachi Hanegbi, is abroad, and he was replaced by MK Gila Gamliel, known closer to her opinions with Haredim and is a convenient substitute for them, in addition, committee chairman MK Ayelet Shaked assured the Haredim that she will vote with them against objections.
It remains to be seen whether the promise will be kept.
