Remove the gloves: Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman ordered to directly attack the Prime Minister against the conscription law and the intention to include criminal sanctions.

As a result of the intention to also include in the recruitment law the imposing of criminal sanctions on yeshiva students who do not join the army, Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman, head of the Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah movement, instructed to personally attack Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The responsibility for the law in general and the inclusion of criminal sanctions in particular," acquaintances of R' Aharon Leib explain, "lies with all partners in the government, and especially its leader Binyamin Netanyahu. Despite the apparent silence and non involvement of the Prime Minister, the responsibility is all his own."

The practical significance of the directive pertains to the home newspaper of Degel HaTorah - Yated Ne'eman, which is expected to open a series of aggressive articles directed straight to the address of the Prime Minister.

Hagaon R' Aharon Leib, according to family members, added that in terms of the the practical standpoint, it is difficult to decide which option is more severe for Haredi Jewry - criminal or economic sanctions.

"Quite possibly," said R' Aharon Leib, "and from the perspective of the single yeshiva student, the economic sanctions are more severe. This is a difficult test. There will be those who will have difficulty giving up the incentives and afraid of the difficulties anticipated if they do not enlist - compared to criminal sanctions which will be given public support.

"However," said Aharon Leib, "in public spectacles, the Chilul Hashem which is entailed in the fact that a Torah scholar is considered a criminal offender is unparalleled Chilul Hashem. Therefore, one must protest vehemently against it, if only to minimize their inherent Chilul Hashem."
