End to traffic problems on Lag B'Omer? Today (Thursday) it turns out that the police traffic department wants to absolutely block access to private vehicles of Mount Meron. Resolution is not accepted, but North Police Command confirmed that this is the trend at this time.
Police Traffic Division is working and doing much to allow immigrants to Meron to reach safely and quickly, and help the public road users. Each year, changes were made to facilitate the movement system during Lag B'Omer , but since these are short time in which hundreds of thousands of immigrants to Mount Meron every year after the festivities were rising claims regarding transportation arrangements .
Consequently, after a meeting held yesterday, it seems that the police traffic department decided that the arrival during Lag B'Omer to Meron, will be possible only by bus, and will not allow private vehicles to reach the mountain area and surrounding parking lots.
Once every year the transportation system to Meron crashes and cannot meet the burden, and after last year thousands of passengers were stuck for hours both at the entrance to Mount Meron as well as the exit, a meeting of officials in the North was held today with the Police traffic department, and appears that it will be decided this year that private vehicles would not be allowed entrance to Meron.
It appears now, the parking lots were used until this year for private vehicles, and public bus garage will be converted. Set of shuttles will operate for the benefit of immigrant car parks at the entrance gate to Meron called "green gate".
Community residents will identify themselves by ID, and except for a small VIP parking for Knesset members and senior officials, everyone will go up to the Mount by public transport and shuttle buses only.
Finance Minister Yair Lapid, signed a month ago, a decree expropriating the grave site of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai from the endowments, and after years of legal disputes concerning ownership and castigating site management.
MK Menachem Moses responded to Behadrey Haredim: " Meron subject is close to my heart forever and I lead Meron on events and activities related to Knesset since assuming office as MK. Last Lag B'Omer, after the terrible chaos thousands of worshipers on their way to the holy site and return from it, stuck for hours on the roads of access to Meron , and held the Knesset Interior Committee meeting to discuss the matter. Panelists included the entire related entities to the site and responsible for the safety of the worshipers and order in place. Israel Police holy places, the Ministry of Tourism, etc." .
"After discussion it was agreed that the following conclusions and data collection, the factors appear again before the committee members to report what they intend to do so that this is not repeated.
"I turned again and again to the Committee Chairman MK Regev and asked that the schedule debate be continued. Indeed, on Monday, 17th Adar I, 17/2 we will convene the Committee. I believe this meeting of the Committee, representatives of the police report to us MKs intentions and plans for traffic changes planned prior to the chag. I shall ask the police, and that any change in program, will provide an accessibility answer to Rebbes and Rabbis in the most honorable way possible, as they had decades, and will include answering and resolving the disabled and those who cannot use public transport. "
