Quebec, Canada: Montreal court charged the heads of Tohash chassidus with $ 2.6 million to pay city authorities.

The Quebec Court charged Kiryat Tohash on the outskirts of Montreal with $ 1.3 million to the Municipal Authority for failure to pay for water, and another $ 1.3 million in interest.

According to the municipal authority three thousand families from Kiryat Tohash have not paid taxes since 2005 for the use of water.

The debate on the fee for water has been conducted for many years as the residents of the neighborhood decided not to pay municipal taxes for the use of water since the authority is not prepared to fix water meters for each apartment separately, and contrary to the agreement with it.

The municipality settled for installing a water meter for every apartment complex, so that it was not possible to calculate the amount of consumption of each family and the amount that each family had to pay for water.

In 2011 the matter was brought before the court which ruled then that the municipal authority can collect the taxes despite the fact that water meters were not installed.

Attorney Rafael Schechter representing the Tohash chassidim said in response to the decision that his clients are disappointed at the court ruling, "We will study the material and will file an appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada."

The Rebbe lives in Kiryat Tohash, and there are seminaries, educational institutions, a yeshiva and nursing home there.
