"We were saved by miracle,' says one of the boys in Belz yeshiva in Boro Park, regarding the accident yesterday (Sunday) evening in the neighborhood, in which a bus carrying students collided with a local ambulance.

The bus which was transporting seventeen Belz yeshiva students from the yeshiva to their homes, was caught in an accident on Ford Hamilton Avenue, Brooklyn, with an urban ambulance on its way in the opposite direction, which apparently slipped on ice that had accumulated on the road, went off course over the curb and collided head- on with the bus which was fully occupied.

A passerby who saw the accident immediately called rescue forces who arrived at the scene with five ambulances, many police and a fire engine, fearing a mass casualty event.

Meanwhile, news of the accident spread quickly, and worried parents rushed to call the yeshiva and rescue organizations to determine the safety of their children. Consequently, Belz yeshiva rushed to publish a list of boys who had been injured, and which hospitals they were admitted to.

The municipal ambulance driver was seriously injured and taken to Loterns Hospital. Miraculously, there were no casualties among the passengers, a number of boys sustained moderate wounds and others minor injuries, and they were evacuated for medical treatment at the Maimonides Hospital. Ten young men have been released to their homes suffering minor injuries, however, the moderately wounded boys suffer of fractures and various injuries and are still hospitalized.
