Monsey Court: closure order to Lizhensk yeshiva

Anger at Hasidic community in Monsey, District Court Judge Margaret Gravina, issued last Friday an immediate closing order on the Lizhensky yeshiva in the city.

This yeshiva is located on Rowdy Carlton Street Monsey, initiated by the Director of the Yeshiva Rabbi Mordechai Rob.

Yeshiva is situated in a family home. Residents living near the yeshiva filed a complaint with the police about changing the target of the home, according to law, is intended only for residential use.

News Journal newspaper claims that authorities conducted a surprise visit to the site, it became clear that the yeshiva has no confirmation nor does the building, fire department inspector found that there are many building deficiencies that may endanger lives.

Lizhensky chassidim operates illegally and without proper permits, chederim, and educational institutions, in other places in Monsey, now fear the judge may try to bring closure of other institutions.

Amongst the institutions is the cheder in Clark - Town , where Chassidim are already receiving an evacuation order due to lack of proper permits and health and safety deficiencies which were found there .

Several months ago, the judge ordered the evacuation to another Hasidic education. The Lizhensky chassid did not appear the hearing held on Friday. Hasidic attorney who represents them regularly passed away a few months ago, and chassidim not yet appoint a new lawyer.

Prosecution counsel Attorney Michael Klein said that "when Lizhensk Chassidim do not take orders from the court, they will be punished in addition for contempt of Court.
