Assassination attempt in Gaza: Islamic Jihad activist seriously injured

Again an assassination attempt in Gaza: a terrorist was wounded this morning (Sunday) very seriously by an air strike in Deir al- Balah in central Gaza Strip.

Harati, a Jihad Salafi, is a Global Jihad activist in the PRC, an organization operating in the Gaza Strip and has been involved for years to perpetrate terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. Additionally he was involved in recent years in promoting and carrying out various terrorist attacks against Israel in both Gaza and the Israel – Sinai border.

Among other things, he worked with Global Jihad Organization in Sinai "Ansar al-Maqdisi" which exercised attacks in Israel. This organization is involved in numerous terrorist attacks on Israeli targets including the Highway 12 attack, the rocket attack at Eilat carried out a number of times over the past year, the latest being on January 20 and January 31.

The organization led by Harti transfers weapons regularly and these days too, to the Global Jihad elements in Sinai and Egypt to further attacks against Israeli civilians and help build a strong infrastructural power in this sector. IDF and ISA will respond harshly to any intention of firing rockets at Israel, and continue to see Hamas as responsible for preventing such attacks.

This morning a missile was shot at him while riding on his motorcycle.

IDF spokesman said that "The IDF considers harshly all firing at Israeli territory and will continue to work powerfully against any attempt to carry out terrorist activities. The IDF is prepared to defend the citizens of Israel."

Defense Minister Moshe (Bogie) Ya'alon said: "The IDF and the General Security Service hit a short while ago a terrorist activist from Gaza, involved in attacks and firing rockets into Israel, partly to Eilat. We will not tolerate the disruption of lives of our citizens and will act strongly against anyone who harms or try to harm Israel. We will continue to pursue with determination every terrorist operative who attempts to hurt the security of Israeli citizens, and cause him to pay a very heavy price. We see Hamas as responsible for what is happening in the Gaza Strip, and if it does not know to impose its authority in the territory, we will charge a price from it too."

Three weeks ago, the Air Force in cooperation with ISA liquidated Ahmed Jamaa Muhammad Khalil Z'anin, 22-year-old Palestinian terrorist from the town of Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip. Z'anin was involved in firing rockets at Israel, among other things right after the funeral of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Sycamore Ranch in the Negev.
