Gross family children were transferred to a regular ward

Two weeks after the disaster took place at the Gross Family home in Givat Mordechai neighborhood of Jerusalem; the two boys were released from ICU and was transferred to the heart ward.

Recall, on Tuesday two weeks ago the four children suffered vomiting and nausea, and turned to the Terem clinic where they reasuured them and sent them home with medication. A few hours later, at 11:00 am, the parents called the rescue forces and reported that one and a half year old Yael lost consciousness. Four year old Avigail later lost consciousness.

When it turned out that the day before an exterminator visited the home and left a container with a toxic substance type Phosphine , in one of the rooms at the apartment , the girls were evacuated while on CPR to Shaarei Tzedek Hospital , in the city, and the boys Rafael Yitzchak age five years old and Chaim Michael Shlomo , aged 7 , were evacuated whilst their condition relapsed. After a few hours the death of Yael and Avigail was determined, and the condition of the boys had become critical.

Following the situation, it was decided to transfer them to the Schneider Medical Center in Petah Tikva when they are attached to the ECMO which replaces the action of the heart in an attempt to achieve some recovery of the heart.

But quite suddenly last weekend - 24 hours apart – the two brothers had surgery where they were disconnected from the ECMO machine, and their hearts returned to function without vitro support. However, they were still kept anesthetized and mechanically ventilated at cardiothoracic intensive care unit. Last Wednesday, Yitzchak regained consciousness, and even licked a lollipop; the next day Michael also opened his eyes and spoke with his parents.

Yitzchak and Michael were transferred for Shabbat to a common room, where they met for the first time since the disaster, and talked together. Grandfather Yaakov Gross said about the meeting: "When they were together in a room, they reacted to each other and are talking. This is a difficult day for us – it is Avigail's birthday, but we had two grandchildren again.
