At the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, a 38 -year-old woman infected with swine flu was hospitalized.
David Ratner, hospital spokesman, said the woman, resident of Haifa, came to the hospital yesterday, in a serious condition and was taken to the "respiratory intensive care" ward, while suffering from other comorbidities. He further noted that apparently she was infected by a family member.
Dr. Yaron Bar- Lavie, head of the respiratory intensive care unit at Rambam Hospital, told Channel 2 News Online that this is a 38 -year-old woman with a previous history of diseases, in a critical condtion and is hospitalized after arriving at the hospital on Wednesday night with flu symptoms and an acute pneumonia.
A few hours ago, the laboratory results were obtained confirming that she contracted swine flu. "Even from ordinary influenza one can contract pneumonia, but one who has not been vaccinated against swine flu may be stricken with very serious pneumonia which requires respiratory care as in this case," said Dr. Bar- Lavi.
He added that there is no risk of infection to other patients in the vicinity of the patient because she is connected to a respiratory system.
However, according to Dr. Bar- Lavi, this winter season people were not vaccinated and that is one reason for the incident in question.
