Border policeman who attacked a haredi protester in Beit Shemesh, will be charged with assault causing injury, deposed from his position as a police officer, not be represented by the state and will face a civil lawsuit of 200 thousand shekels, according to a report by Channel 10.
Six months ago, during protests against the excavations at the Goloventzitz compound in Beit Shemesh, a border policeman, Yonathan Yosef, was documented when violently hitting the protester Gadi Raz.
Yosef Raz attacked Raz with fists, and continued to beat him even after he was handcuffed in the police vehicle.
Raz was rushed to the hospital, where he had stitches, and then taken in for questioning.
Following the incident, an indictment was filed against the officer. He will be charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm and the state will demand prison against him.
Yosef will be dismissed from the police and will not be entitled to legal representation, despite the fact that the event took place while on duty.
Raz's attorney, Itamar Ben Gvir, filed a civil suit for the amount of NIS 200 thousand and wrote: "These are serious acts made by an official representative of the State of Israel, a uniformed policeman who wanted to lynch the plaintiff."
Ben Gvir said: "The decision to file charges and not allow the officer to be represented for free from the prosecution are the most important steps, but not sufficient. It is time the police of Israel will understand that the blood of the Haredim is not cheap and those who will hurt, beat and go wild will have to bear the consequences of his severe actions. We hope that in addition to all the above, the Court will impose on the policeman significant financial compensation that will be a message of deterrence to anyone who thinks that they can attack and injure civilians just because they are Haredi."
