On a navy ship that was on a routine patrol along the Gaza coast over Shabbos, a system failure was found in the pumps. The navy soldiers tried to fix the problem, and as a result a fire broke out in the pump room. Nine soldiers were lightly injured, including a soldier who was burned on his face. All the soldiers were evacuated to hospital for treatment. The navy is investigating the circumstances of the problem.
"Sometimes a person does something and does not always know where it will lead to. What do I mean?" Says Yisrael Yart, assistant to Rabbi Grossman, Rabbi of Migdal Haemek, says in a conversation with Behadrey Haredim.
"My father, Rabbi Eliyahu Yart had a lifetime dream to open a motel at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot- his hometown. The result of the dream you all know already, the Ezras Cholim Organization - Rehovot, is something that exists and saves many Jews of desecrating Shabbos."
"Thank G-d, from the moment that the organization was founded 16 years ago until today, there were thousands of Jews who had nothing to eat on Shabbos or where to rest a little on Shabbos - when they are next to the patient, who were helped by the organization."
"But what was this Shabbos was beyond the reach of imagination. What happened was this. As known, in contrast to the image formed, there are now lots of observant Jews serving especially in sensitive places. The soldiers wounded on the ship, were taken to the Kaplan hospital for tests in the midst of Shabbos."
"After finishing the tests B"H all were discharged. But the religious soldiers refused to return to base on Shabbos. What should they do? To leave the soldiers abandoned on Friday night is impossible. To return them to Ashdod is also impossible. The liaison began examining and thinking about what can be done in the current situation, which seemed a dead end."
"They told her that in the emergency ward there is a motel and they should go there. The officer realized she had no choice. She went with soldiers on foot towards the motel. She arrived with a group of soldiers at 11:30pm on Friday night. Knocks on the door apprehensively. A pair of black 'dossim' (haredi Jews) open the door. They receive her with a huge smile and heart wide. Please come inside. What you want to eat? They open a table for them full of Shabbos dishes and Kiddush wine, all generously and with a huge smile. The soldiers finish eating and ask what next? They tell them what's the problem? We made beds for you, go take a sleep with pleasure.
"They look for the liaison officer, and find her on the side saying there is no one like these religious, what brings people to be here on Shabbos in Kaplan Hospital, only to do it all for those who do not, so that they should have. It's just unbelievable that people leave their home, their family, and come to volunteer without receiving compensation - just to make sure that others will also have. This is unparalleled Kiddush Hashem," Yaret ends the story." And thank G-d that I had a small part in that. And a great privilege to be born with such a family. And hopefully it will only be used for happy things."
