Tonight (Thursday) at 1:30 or so, red alert sliced the city of Ashkelon and its environs, following a number of launchings from Gaza.

Nearby residents reported explosions that sounded up to Ashdod and Kiryat Malachi. Security system identified six rockets were fired; five of them at a populated area, and the Iron Dome system intercepted them. Another rocket fired at Ashkelon landed in an open area.

Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.

Air Force attacked the Gaza Strip in response to fire.

IDF attacked launcher cached sites to store weapons, and the focus of terrorist activity in northern Gaza. Agence France Presse reported that five Palestinians were wounded by shrapnel Air Force attack in the morning in Gaza, including four children, but in no danger.

Previous rocket was immediately after the funeral of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in Chavat Kalaniyot, and then fired two rockets from the Gaza Strip exploded in an open area just six miles away. In response, the IDF attacked outpost of Islamic Jihad and Hamas base.
