"The next day after the announcement on a day of prayer for rain, the drought ended", says Rabbi Levi, a Chabad Hasid and a member of the Jewish community in Morocco to Behadrey Haredim.
Morocco's King Mohammed VI, sent a request to the Chief Rabbi of Morocco Rabbi Aharon Montesego a week ago, and asked that the Jewish community would pray for rain. The community responded to the rain arrived.
Rabbi Levi says: "The Christians carried a special prayer for rainfall and the rain was late in coming, the day the request came from the king."
"We have a nice Jewish community here, in Casablanca itself there are 25 synagogues. We announced last Shabbos as a day for prayer for rainfall and all the synagogues davened "tefillat hageshem" which is said on Shemini Atzeret. Indeed, the day after, the rain began to fall, and continued to fall throughout the week".
"This is not the first time that the king asks us to pray for him," he said, "I have lived in Morocco for six years and I have counted at least three instances in which he asked us to pray, the king knows that our prayers are accepted," Rabbi Levy said with satisfaction, "the local media also reported that at length".
"The father of Mohammed VI used to turn to the rabbis of Morocco whenever a drought prevailed," says Sam Ben Shitrit, chairman of the Federation of Moroccan Origin, to Behadrey Haredim, "Rabbi Shalom Mashash zt"l was friends with Mohammed V, father of the present king, told him that before his death he called his son and told him that he must watch over the Jews for they are his lucky charm. I confirmed the story in one of my meetings with King Mohammed VI," Shitrit said.
