"Desecration of synagogues this weekend is due to the instigation of the haredi public" claims today (Tuesday), MK Uri Maklev of Yahadut Hatorah.

Maklev raised at plenum urgent motions in light of the three synagogues attacked last weekend, two at Moshav Ezer in the south and one at Sirkin base in Petach Tikva.

"Says the commander of the Southern District Police Commander Yoram Halevy, these are 'serious acts and shocking that the desecration of Torah scrolls - but it turns out that most of the residents of Israel never heard of the serious incidents," said Maklev. "Haredi press reported these incidents of considerable shock, but in the general press these serious acts were not mentioned. Even when I raised the issue at a meeting of the Knesset Presidium no one knew what I was talking about.

"Do we live in two countries there is a disconnection between them? Are we no longer shocked by such serious acts? After all, if such an event was taking place in Europe the Knesset would be shocked - but when it happens in Israel, no one cries," he added. "How can we pass these grave events on the agenda?"

MK Rabbi Uri Maklev made a connection between the vandalism that took place in the synagogue and severe recurrent attacks and media climate against the haredi public: "There are four reasons that such events can occur. Nationalist, anti-Semitic vandalism or whether it involves the face of incitement against the ultra-Orthodox community - because synagogues are seen as representing them."

"According to the way things stand now, this is the reason for these serious acts. How does the youth interpret the persecution of haredim in Israel - in the form of violence and desecration of holy books? Incitement against the ultra-Orthodox public to cause severe vandalism at three synagogues - a fact that cries out to heaven," he concluded.

In light of the urgent order proposal of MK Rabbi Uri Maklev, Internal Security Minister promised that he will update the progress of the investigation. "These events are in a state of advanced exploration and investigation is almost complete," he noted.
