Will elections for the Chief Rabbinate Council be cancelled?
The High Court ordered today (Tuesday) Naftali Bennett, Minister for Religious Services, to respond within three weeks why elections for the Chief Rabbinate Council, which took place 3 months ago, would not be revoked.
In a petition filed by the "Movement for Fairness in Government" it was argued that the office of the Deputy Minister, Eli Ben - Dahan, campaigned for the re-election of 10 rabbis by a coordinated list.
The petition also argued that the Electoral Assembly was a presented with a false presentation, as the chief rabbis support the election of 10 rabbis, and that the assembly was not presented with nominations for four other rabbis who competed in the elections as well.
