Baruch Dayan Ha'emes: Heavy mourning in Chabad and emissaries family: this morning the terrible news arrived about the passing of Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Shmulevitz z"l, shaliach and director of Chabad house in the city of Beit Shean, Rav of the schools and Rosh Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim in Hamra.
In recent years he suffered from a malignant disease and his condition severely deteriorated. This morning he returned his soul to its Creator.
The deceased z"l was born in Belgium on 22 Tevet 5724 (1964) to his parents Harav Kalman Shmuelevitz and Mrs. Rachel Shmulevitz. At the age of 4 came with his parents to Israel, and in his youth he studied at Yeshivat Itri in Jerusalem, where he became close to Chabad, and participated in an underground Tania class taught by Rabbi Berel Shor.
In 1984 on Simchas Torah he visited with a group at 770.
After his marriage, he wrote to the Lubavitcher Rebbe zt"l that he and his wife wish to go out on shlichus. The letter presented several options, including the possibility of learning at a Kollel. A few days later came the reply: the Rebbe circled "Bet She'an" and added: "I will mention on the tziun. It should be besha'a tova umutzlachas, in body and in soul." After leaving on shlichus, they were given financial and emotional encouragement from the Rebbe for a long time.
Over the years 1967 - 2011 Harav Shmulevitz wrote a regular column in the Beis Mashiach magazine called "Stories from Chabad House" - Stories of delegates from around the world.
He is survived by a blessed generation of 12 children, all continuing his way.
The funeral's time and location to be announced.
May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
