House on fire - adjacent synagogue was saved

Fire which broke out in Lakewood left a local family homeless. Yesterday (Tuesday) , there was a fire in residential apartment in Lakewood as a result of a heater.

The fire burned the house to the ground, leaving the family homeless. Firefighters were able to rescue the family from the burning house just before it was completely burned.

The Beis Torah shull is adjacent to a burned house, and the flames began to turn towards it. Rescue forces recovered from it the Torah scrolls, and firefighters were able to take control of the fire and prevent its spreading towards the synagogue.

As a result of the fire and damage to the central power cable, the power supply for the entire region was shut down.

The family which was left penniless and homeless went to a neighbor's home. Deputy Mayor Meir Lichtenstein turned to the IEC and asked to do everything to restore power to the area to allow the heat in the freezing cold which prevailed yesterday in Lakewood.

After much effort, power was restored to the homes.
