The "Third Beat" was completed: tonight (Tuesday), 26 Palestinian terrorists were released home in the shade of public protest.
Three terrorists were transferred to the Gaza Strip, five terrorists from East Jerusalem were transferred to 'Metzudat Adumim' and were released to their homes, and the others were transferred from Ofer Jail to the nearby Bethany crossing. From there they went to a reception in Ramallah.
At around 1:50 am, the process of liberation began. Three terrorists crossed the Erez crossing to the Palestinian side. The three came in a vehicle of the prison service and they were received by dozens of Palestinians, including their families. A few minutes later 18 terrorists left Ofer Prison to the Bethany crossing. Five terrorists from East Jerusalem left from the Border Police base at Metzudat Adumim to their homes.
In the Mokata iin Ramallah a festive reception was held for the terrorists. They were greeted with hugs by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas who said: "Today is a joy to our people, our families and our prisoner heroes who went out to the light of freedom. We promise that this is not the last time prisoners will be released. Following the fourth beat we hope the sick prisoners will be released as well. All 104 prisoners agreed upon will be released to their homes and elsewhere. There will not be final agreement with Israel until all prisoners are released."
The Palestinian President addressed the ministerial decision on Sunday to annex the Jordan Valley to Israel. "The Valley is our land and will remain so. This is a red line for us," he said.
Earlier, the High Court rejected the petition of the representatives of the bereaved families against the release. Judge Elyakim Rubinstein objected to the dissenting opinion to the release of five terrorists residents of East Jerusalem.
At the same time as the legal debate, protesters and representatives of bereaved families marched from the Prime Minister's home in Jerusalem, where a protest tent was erected, to the home of one of the terrorists in the Old City. The marchers carried black umbrellas and pictures of the victims, and waved placards with slogans against the government, Binyamin Netanyahu and his ministers. Among those present was Tamar Fogel, whose parents and three of her siblings were killed in the attack in Itamar. "Women and children were murdered in their homes through no fault of their own, they have shed innocent blood," Vogel's grandfather described. "Woe to us from this day, all the people of Israel should cry and mourn".
