Torah scrolls from Iraq were buried in U.S.

When the American army, who were preparing to exit from Iraq after the invasion in March 2003, a withdrawal that was completed in 2011, soldiers found various Jewish treasures, hidden.

Years before the withdrawal , in 2010, soldiers discovered a basement flooded with water , which belonged to Saddam Hussein , Iraq's dictator was executed by the Allied Forces which was a great treasure of art objects , objects of cultural and historical Jewish . More than 2400 different books and thousands of valuable documents were discovered.

Great Treasury were sixteen sheets of Torah scrolls, as a result of the flooding, the writing was erased and completely disqualified.

Iraqi Jewish community in New York, conducted intensive efforts with the Americans, in order to receive the sheets for the purpose of bringing them to burial.

Americans responded to the request and released the sheets to burial. During the ceremony, was attended by about a hundred and twenty people, including representatives of the Iraqi embassy in the U.S., government officials and international archives.
