Guest in Gibralter: Pshawarsk Rebbe

Last week, the Pshawarsk Rebbe went to rest for three weeks, in Gibraltar.

Gibraltar Jewish community is very small - about 1,000 people, from 30,000 inhabitants in total. It has a Spanish, British and Moroccan character. Last week, the Pshawarsk Rebbe went to rest for three weeks, in Gibraltar.

Community has existed for 300 years. One of its characteristics is that its members observe Shabbos. Walking through the narrow streets of Gibraltar on Shabbos, will find to his surprise, that more than half of the small town shops are closed, simply because all the local Jews close their shops. Although Shabbos is the most profitable trading day in respect of ships and tourists arriving on Shabbos to Gibraltar - where duty-free port - no Jew of 600 local Jews working will open his shop on Shabbos.

Rebbe is supposed to return home on Monday Parashas BeShalach. Following Shabbos, he is due to fly to New York for the marriage of his grandson, son of his son in law Harav Moshe Shmuel Rottenberg. He is expected to stay until Thursday Parashas Yitro.
