The historical journey of the Council of Torah Sages of Agudath Israel may be postponed: Yesterday (Sunday) it seemed that by the end of the week and Motzaei Shabbos all the great Rebbes will be leaving abroad - now it was decided that the trip will be postponed for two weeks.
The central protest gathering in the U. S. will be held on Tuesday in two weeks.
The Rebbes, members of the Council of Torah Sages, are expected to leave on Sunday 5th Shevat to the U.S., and most of them will arrive in the country even earlier.
The reason for postponement is the Christian Christmas, will falls at the end of the calendar year, thereby creating difficulty in securing the central conference. Another reason is the winter weather and finding a huge hall that will hold all the participants.
Heads of the Agudath Israel in the U.S. spoke on a conference call on Monday night with the leaders of Agudath Israel in Israel, explaining the hardships of such a campaign these days.
This afternoon, consultation meetings were held at the home of the Gerrer Rebbe in Jerusalem with the participation of MK Yaakov Litzmann and the Msb"k of the Belzer Rebbe, Rabbi Shimon Wolf Klein, where the decision was made to postpone the journey for about two weeks.
Meanwhile, the initiator of the journey, the Gerrer Rebbe, arrived this afternoon at the U.S. Consulate in Tel Aviv to renew his visa.
Last night, a session of the Steering Committee was held - the preparatory committee headed by Chanoch Zeibert, attended by representatives from the different Hasidus circles of Gur: Yaakov Litzman, Yonathan Bornstein, Menachem Gasheid, Chaim Yustman, and Israel Babchick; Belz: Israel Eichler and his assistant Chaim Rabinowitz; Viznitz: Council Secretary Rabbi Mordechai Stern and Yaakov Tessler; Tzanz: Dov Shtemer and Chaim Meir Langsam; Boyan: Binyamin Hershler, and a representative of Viznitz: Yaakov Walzer.
The Steering Committee decided to establish a steering committee in the U.S. to prepare the tour. Currently, with the postponement, there will be more time to prepare the ground for such a historic journey.
