While the fight against the decree of recruitment worsens, the IDF is trying to encourage military service for religious women in the military.

Women's Affairs Advisor to the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Rachel Tevet - Wiesel, met last week with a delegation from the U.S. of AMIT Women.

The meeting was designed to try to expand cooperation between the IDF and religious Ulpanot to encourage the enlistment of religious women into the IDF – as reported by The Journal 'Matzav Haru'ach'.

Gen. Tevet - Wiesel said at the meeting that she does not see a difference between the national service to the army, as long as there is equality and girls are doing two years of service. "Even in my home I do force to go to the military, but if national service - it is clear that it's for two years."

The following expression may sound like an anecdote, but it was voiced seriously by the officer: "The army is interested in 'talmidot chachamim' who studied Halacha and Talmud, girls with a head on their shoulders."

Advisor to the Chief of Staff said religious education does not deal correctly with integrating religious women in the IDF. "Girls come from religious institutions without direction and without consultation," she said, and complained about everyone who does not let her go into Ulplanot to explain the situation.

"The current situation prevents the army from explaining itself to these girls that ultimately do not know their options, the alleviations granted to them in service, and many areas where they can serve," she said.

She said that the IDF has a whole array for directives and accessibility of religious girls to the army. "There are women officers who are in charge of the entire issue," she said.

One cannot know how the next figure reflects the reality, but the IDF says, however, that the number of religious girls who enlist, is on the rise.
