Hundred and fifty people attended on Sunday at noon at the funeral conducted by the Jewish community on Long Island, dozens of Torah scrolls were brought from Iraq ten years ago.
The Torah scrolls – which were full of mold - are living testimony to dozens of synagogues which were in Iraq, and they were found by the U.S. Army in 2003, during a search of arms and weapons, in a flooded basement.
The funeral took place at the cemetery on Long Island, said Maurice Shohet, union chairman Iraqi Jews in the U.S., that the damage caused to the Torah scrolls is probably as a result of mold, and highlighted the fact that the Jewish community in Iraq has not abandoned the glorious Jewish heritage of Iraq.
A few months ago the value Ghetto White House is open to the view of books and religious Jewish property found and brought to Baghdad to try to preserve and save the books.
Recently the Iraqi government ordered all Judaica and Holy Books from Iraq. He said the new policy in Iraq believes in preserving different cultures and religious minorities living therein, including Muslims, Jews and Christians.
