Will Rebbe's campaign take place?

Led by Rebbe of Gur, it was decided on a campaign in answer to the recruitment law • Uncertainty: factor in Hasidus says his Rebbe "will not go out for fund raising only" • Disagreement in Hasidic newspaper headlines: Senior of Agudath Israel furious with Hamevasser • Yated: no reference of journey

A few hours after the release about Rebbes' journey to the U.S. due to the recruitment of yeshiva students, Behadrey Haredim went out and examined whether the planned journey is indeed possible.

Yesterday (Monday) at the conference Council of Torah Sages of Agudath Israel, Rebbes agreed that such a campaign would cause widespread public response. The leader of the plan was the Rebbe of Gur, who expressed his desire several times recently to get the idea into practice. According to the plan, the journey will not take place in the next month, due to winter weather in the United States.

All Rebbes are expected to participate, except for the eldest member, the Rebbe of Erloi who is suffering of weakness. The Rebbe of Slonim's practice is not to leave the country, but the possibility that he would make an exception this time, was suggested.

But it turns out that despite the agreement in principle, it is still unclear that indeed all the Rebbes will participate in the journey. A factor in one Hasidus said to Behadrey Haredim that it depends for what purpose: "Our Rebbe will travel only if it will bring real benefit. For fundraising only, he will not travel. One should check whether the hassle is worth the trip, whether it will be beneficial against the authorities."

A browse in Hasidic newspapers' headlines reveals that indeed not all are of one mind as to the expedition. A senior in Agudath Israel is furious with Hamevasser newspaper, which is affiliated with the Shlomei Emunim faction, since it did not place enough emphasis, in his opinion, on the journey led by the Rebbe of Gur: "It is very puzzling that Hamevasser newspaper did not give it the main headline. I really can not understand the head of one of the press and its editors who have chosen not to put it in the main headline."

'Hamevasser' devoted his main title to the snowstorm and reported on the Council meeting only at the bottom of the page. The trip itself is only mentioned in the subtitle: "Gedolei Yisroel will go overseas first time to call and request the assistance of Haredi Jewry in the Diaspora in face of recruitment of yeshiva students decree".

'Hamodia', in contrast, reported the journey in the main headline: "Historic decision, from heart ache for religious persecution , Maranan Verabonan, members of Council of Torah Sages, will leave on a special trip to inspire the faithful Jewry in the Diaspora in face of the recruitment decree."

The Litvishe newspapers: Yated Ne'eman, affiliated with Hagaon Rabbi Aharon Leib Steinman, the headline this morning covers the convention of roshei yeshivos, headed by R' Aharon Leib Steinman. Report of the Council of Agudath Yisrael meeting was brought in the inside pages, without mention of the journey.

'Hapeles' newspaper, which is affiliated with Hgr"s Aerbach, devoted its main title rather to the journey of members of the Council of Torah Sages of Agudath Israel: "Members of Moetzes Gedulei Hatorah of Agudath Yisrael will leave on a special trip abroad to inspire the faithful Jewry in the Diaspora in face of the decree of recruitment of Yeshiva students". However, the competing Litvishe newspaper did not ignore and covered the convention of roshei yeshivos headed by R' Aharon Leib Steinman as well.
