The alternative poverty report of the "Latet" organization is published today (Monday) and presents hard data on the state of needy families in Israel: 69 % of supported families are suffering from food insecurity. 70 % of parents reported that they had to give up food for a whole day, 50 % mentioned it for their children. 16 % even said that this phenomenon is repeated often.

Half of the families that can allow their children food are based mainly on carbohydrates and 37 % of children are fed bread and spreads as a staple food. 60 % of parents have reduced their children's meals and due to hardship.

29 % of supported families reported that the economic cuts in 2013 forced them to reduce basic food products. 41 % of them claimed that the deterioration is the result of economic measures.

46% of those supported are working people. About 22 % of families supported are such that both spouses work. 17 % do not work due to their inability to pay arrangement for their children, which requires one of the parents to work part time or not to work at all. 11 % lost their jobs last year.

It also appears that 74 % did not undergo any training, vocational or employment, that would allow them escape from the hardships and gain financial independence.

The Alternative Poverty Report is based on a sample of 520 recipients of associations, 100 NGO managers and 500 people from the general public in the second half of the year.
