Court postponed decision in Beit Shemesh

Stress in the District Court in Jerusalem this morning (Tuesday): at 10:00am a hearing began in the petitions of a request for new elections in Beit Shemesh, due to the alleged forgeries which were discovered. At 12:00pm the court went out for a break, after listening to arguments of the parties and their attorneys. After the break, representatives of the parties in the city started their pleadings.

The hearing of the petition filed by the Attorney General Weinstein and defeated candidate Eli Cohen, was held at Hall no. 317 on the third floor the Jerusalem District Court in the presence of: President David Cheshin, Justice Moshe Sobel and Justice Dr. Yigal Marzel .

Mountains of paperwork were prepared for the hearing, and submitted by each party. Attorney Yaakov Weinroth of Mayor Moshe Abutbul, gave the court no less than 100 pages of defense, alongside a battery of lawyers of the other parties that filed on their part defense and references. Due to this, there is no assurance that the decision will fall today.

Moshe Aboutbul, Mayor of Beit Shemesh, who is fighting the battle of his life, said upon his arrival in the Jerusalem District Court for the hearing of the appeal in the election results: "There are judges in Jerusalem, we have nothing to fear. We won according to law."

During the hearing, the prosecution argued that evidence of the suspects in forgery, were not investigated in full, but argues that there is no need for that, since "what matters is the principle."

During the trial, the judges were more interested in the technical and small details of the counterfeits seized on election day.

Attorney Eitan Haberman, representing Eli Cohen, sharpens the issue of values, meaning that a method of counterfeiting was revealed. At 12:00, the court went out for a break.

Haredi dailies published this morning articles titled "Be'ad amech rachamim sha'ali" (ask seeking to supplicate in prayer during the trial for the crucial war and "ribui kvod shomayim" (increasing the honor of Heaven). The ad is signed by "Gabbaim of the dommunities".
