Is military prison suitable for ultra-Orthodox? Chairman of the Torah FIDF, Eliyahu Lax, contacted the state comptroller earlier this week demanding to test a series of claims about adjusting the religious needs of correctional facilities.
According to Lex, the letter came after the hassid discharged to long prison terms in prison 4 (a military prison located in Zerifin), and brought him the impression.
In the letter he was appointed fault line, including: "Inside room has two partitions height 1.20 m, one bathroom and one shower. Soldier who wants to engage in holy (prayer, study) is unable to do so because the smell comes out of the toilet."
Another problem is that the televisions in the rooms, " the prisoners ' quarters have TV in every room. For the orthodox soldier, this is not suitable." Lex says that the detainee in question asked to enter the cell, rather than stay in a room with a TV.
FIDF Torah is a voluntary body established to provide the needs of the observant soldiers. Among other things, it helps in resolving failures that harm the consciences of haredi soldiers.
Conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim he says that he went directly to the state comptroller, in light of previous experience. "Usually, when I go into the army, I get an answer that I raise claims which are not true. That is why I decided to go straight to the comptroller to examine the procedures in military prisons."
However, saying he may refer the matter to the Head of the Human Resources Branch.
The IDF said in response to the allegations: "The claims in question were tested and have no basis. Every problem emerging from the prisoners or by officers examined and treated if necessary. As in any army bases are held from time to time in prison ongoing reviews of the Military Rabbinate officials to ensure compliance with IDF orders."
