Following the call of the Rabbi of the holy places, and after the failure of previous protests, Gedolei Yisrael decided not to hold this morning (Wednesday) a protest against the Women of the Wall prayer at the Western Wall.
Previously Degel HaTorah heads in Jerusalem tried to organize a protest as of every month against the Women of the Wall. It was reported that Hgray"l Steinman asked seminary directors to hold the protest prayer which has turned into a monthly protest.
City Council member from Yahadut Hatorah, Rabbi Yitzchak Pindrus, even announced that from the neighborhoods are organized a shuttle which will leave to the Western Wall.
But during Channuka there is no school, and there was suspicion the respond will be poor as was expressed in the past.
"In the past when there were no classes, and the girls had to come from home, they just do not come," said one of the organizers to B'Chadrei Charedim, "The girls are not ready to come during their holiday, and we learned a lesson."
Also contributed to the decision was the request of the Rabbi of the Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz to cancel the rally.
In his letter he explained that, "the Prime Minister established a committee to find a solution for settling disputes headed by the cabinet secretary, and began immediate practical steps to implement it."
"Anyone who desires a solution had to do confidence-building measure, anyone who continues to struggle at this time, then there is evidence that this trend is to sabotage the talks and reignite the surface, and then again I do not know what hope we have to everyone's efforts."
"Chanukah is a holiday where we ignite the light to reject the darkness. Light unity should reject the darkness of the dispute. Potential solution even when it is contrary worldview, the purpose to avoid controversy. So please brothers and sisters continue to turn the burning controversy at the Western Wall."
'Women of the Wall apparently have not responded to the request of Rabbi Rabinowitz and are expected to hold a prayer at 8:00 am.
