Horrific accident in the south: the late Yosef Yonah Rottner, a yeshiva student age 14, was killed this evening (Monday), in a car accident at the entrance to Beit Chilkiya.
His body was released from the Abu Kabir Institute following external testing only, and funeral takes place tonight in Ashdod and Jerusalem.
The boy is the son of Rabbi Nachman Rottner resident of Ashdod, great-grandson of Rabbi Halisa zt"l and Belz yeshiva student in Beit Chilkiya.
The boy apparently crossed Highway 3, and a private Mercedes vehicle hit him, he was mortally wounded and was treated by medics and paramedics of Hatzalah, but they could only confirm his death.
Hatzalah spokesman said: "This is a yeshiva student - 14 year old pedestrian was hit hard in the head by a vehicle, medics tried to save his life but he was pronounced dead on scene due to the nature of the severe injury."
MDA paramedic Shmulik Hartman, who treated the young boy said: "When we reached the scene with MICU we saw a boy lying unconscious and not breathing or pulse with multi-system injury on the sidewalk, we gave him a medical treatment. Following resuscitation attempts we had to confirm his death."
The accident is not a signalized intersection without a crosswalk. Certified Superintendent Shaffer, head of traffic lowland told B'Chadrei Charedim: "Apparently the boy crossed the road not at the regulated crosswalk. Private vehicle coming from east to west hit him. The driver was questioned in place and circumstances of the accident are being tested. "
Yosef Landa, operations officer Zaka Lachish, told B'Chadrei Charedim: " We are working at the scene to collect findings and are in contact with the family and the police to release the body of a the boy tonight, and not to be evacuated to Abu Kabir, but to make the funeral tonight."
"I spoke with the father of the deceased, he wanted to come here, to the scene of the fatal accident, but I begged him not to come. So too, about 150 members of the yeshiva, came from Beit Chilkiya, to view their friend lying on the road dead. They stood at the edge of the road and cried. As soon as we saw them, we sent them away after much effort. "
Mechle Gutwein, coordinator of the Legal Department of Zaka says in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim that the fact that the police sent the body of the deceased for tests is designed to insure them legally so that no one tomorrow comes and claims that the boy died for reasons other than a traffic accident."
Funeral of the deceased will leave tonight at 1 am from the Beit Midrash of Belz, on Hanina ben Dosa in Ashdod, where the boy's father davens.
The funeral will continue towards Belz in Jerusalem, to Har Hamenuchot where he will be laid to rest.
