About half of the Judicial Selection Committee members will be women. So it was decided today (Monday ) at the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, after the commission approved the first reading of the law of MK's Aliza Lavie, Zahava Gal and a group of MKs.
According to current law, the Judicial Selection Committee consists of 9 members: three judges of the Supreme Court (including the Chief Justice) Minister of Justice and another two Knesset members, and two representatives of the Israel Bar Association.
The bill seeks to establish that at least four women will serve on the Judicial Appointments Committee. One of the representatives of the government, the Knesset, the Supreme Court and the Bar Association shall be women.
Initiator of the bill, MK Aliza Lavie, said today at the committee: "The proposal aligns with the law I gave a proper representation of women, law rabbinical judges. It is important that there should be female involvement. "Lavie said that soon she will submit a similar proposal, to the Selection Committee Cadis.
It should be noted that the bill of MK Lavie, today merged with a similar proposal by MK Zahava Gal-On. The merged bill will be brought to a vote in first reading in the Knesset plenum.
