Vizhnitzer Rebbe: "We'll go to prison and not army"
שוקי לרר

During shalosh seudos on Shabbos Naso, the Vizhnitzer Rebbe delivered harsh words about the duty of time amid the Shaked Committee for equality of burden, which discusses the conscription law and the sanctions imposed on yeshiva students and kollel students.

In the presence of thousands of Chassidim who came for Shabbos Chanukah, the Rebbe expressed his known opinion, and said again, "We will go to jail, we will not go to the army under any circumstances. No 'First Order' and no 'Red Order' – it is forbidden to go to the army, not to report at the recruitment center, not on the first, nor the second and not on the third call.

"Regarding showing up in the recruitment centers, my opinion is strong that the boys themselves should not show up altogether! The instruction will actually be given by the Council of Torah Sages - but this is my personal opinion."

Later in his words which were said painfully, the Rebbe said: "The very little left for us which we get from them, is not worth the price we must pay for it. The constant tyranny and general attitude of the heads of state towards the haredi community is on par or even competing with governors' approach toward the Jews in the Diaspora.

"The present heads of state have no basic understanding which earlier heads of the state understood, their purpose is one - to narrow the steps of G-d fearing Jews, and all means and in all respects and areas, are acceptable to them to their goal. It is upon us to declare publicly, we do not fear them, do not move and did not deviate an inch from our way which we has been our heritage for generations."
