Oligarch in trouble • Arcadi Gaydamak was arrested in Switzerland

Russian businessman Arcadi Gaydamak was arrested in Zurich, Switzerland, say tonight (Monday) news channels.

Arcadi Gaydamak came to Switzerland for arbitration deal that is disputed, and is stopped due to an arrest warrant issued against him in Luxembourg.

According to Luxembourg news site Gaydamak was arrested last weekend in Zurich due to the controversial sale of the phosphate plant in Kazakhstan.

A website stated that Zurich has confirmed that police arrested an Israeli citizen - French Russian descent, but did not disclose that it is Gaydamak.

Swiss police confirmed the details, and his Israeli lawyer attorney said he knows what it is, but declined to comment.

Several years ago he settled in Israel, Gaydamak invested in a series of companies and sports teams Beitar Jerusalem. He also ran for mayor of Jerusalem but failed.

Against Gaydamak has been charged with money laundering affair at Bank Hapoalim, but he reached a plea bargain with the prosecution who removed the main charges against him. So there were criminal proceedings against him in France - which were removed.
