On the way to prayer: elderly man hit - and left to die on road

Hit and Run: 83 year old man, gabbai of a shull who was on his way to shachris in Rishon Lezion, was injured by a vehicle, mortally wounded and soon died of his wounds. The offender escaped and left him lying on the road.

At 5:31 a report was received at the MDA Ayalon call center, of a man found lying after he was apparently hit by a vehicle on the Mordei Hageta'ot street in Rishon Lezion. Medics and Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived at the scene had to confirm his death, after suffering a multi-system injury.

An initial investigation of the Lowland Region Police found that this man was on his way to shull, and was hit by a vehicle who fled the scene. Police and Zaka were at the scene, as well as spatial MCO. Circumstances of the accident are investigated.

Details of the investigation which were transferred to the national traffic department reveal that the elderly man crossed the street at a crosswalk probably on his way to the synagogue. According to estimations of the traffic department, the offending vehicle which was traveling at a high speed, did not notice the man, hit him hard and threw him to a large distance.
