Unprecedented attack of the Satmar Rebbe on Litvak leaders last night (Motzaei Shabbos) while celebrating the 'Day of Rescue': "At such a fatal time they have nothing to fight about?" he said.
Last night, tens of thousands of Satmar hassidim celebrated the day of rescue of the Rebbe Divrei Yoel of Satmar, who escaped the Nazis by train organized by the Hungarian Zionist leader Israel Kastner.
The celebration was held at the New York State Armory, Crown Heights, New York.
During his speech at the event, the Rebbe attacked the struggle in Israel between factions of Litvishe Judaism: "At the most difficult time since the Holocaust for Haredi Judaism do we not have what to fight over, just about nonsense like who will establish a party, who will be the leader? You will be able to fight over this in a jail cell."
The evening was opened by Rabbi Yekutiel Yitzchok Brach, director of institutions of Satmar Bnei Brak, Rabbi Avraham Eisner who brought the blessing of the Governor of New York, followed by Av Beis Din Satmar in Williamsburg, Rabbi Mordechai Elazar Hirsch CEO of institutions in Williamsburg, for which the dinner was held this evening, and Hagaon Rabbi Mordechai Gelber, who brought special greetings from his grandfather Hgr"s Vozner.
Afterwards, the Rebbe spoke on matters of current affairs and called to remove phones and devices connected to the Internet from one's home.
Although the Satmar Rebbe was saved by the Zionists, the Rebbe did not hesitate and harshly attacked Zionism: "To our dismay, we are concluding masseches Avodah Zarah," he said, "but the Zionist avoda zora did not end, even avoda zora with the cooperation of haredi parties".
The Rebbe then went on to talk about the struggle against the dispute which divides the Litvishe public in Israel: "Six months ago we went out to protest against the conscription of yeshiva students, but recently there is controversy in Eretz Yisroel about honor and parties. Controversy which reaches heights. If they fight now and will not unite, finally the two main factions will sit in prison in the same cell. There they will have enough time to fight.
"If we would merit, they would join forces last summer and hundreds of thousands would go into the streets of the city, and set aside all differences, then no decree would be hovering over them. But now we have not been zoche, and we are on the eve of the terrible decree which includes imprisonment or harsh economic sanctions - not only on those benefiting from the government - but also private decrees such as a reduction in property taxes. It is impossible to do anything because of small controversy over nonsense."
