One minute to Shabbos • Boaz Ben-Ari presents: Kikar Hashbbat

The first siren echoes throughout Jerusalem, and I remembered: I didn't go out to take pictures. I was preoccupied with matters before Shabbos, until I forgot the interesting street.
I quickly take along a dear friend and artist photographer, Yosef Furmanski. We go on the vehicle and hurry to Shabbat Square on the way to Mea Shearim, in order to manage to photograph - before the road barriers are placed, and maybe even get a taste of stone throwing.
On Saturday night, when we saw what we took – I was pretty disappointed. Most of the pictures, because we could not stop, did not come out sharp, certainly not focused. Out of 200 images, 25 pictures came out, those who barely pass the score of 'almost good'.
But with a second observation: that's exactly how the street looks. Although not sharp, but really how Shabbos comes in.
Children on the way to the Mea Shearim shull, children with yarmulkes, yeshiva students talking casually at Kikar Hashabbos, and hundreds on the way to the Western Wall, with the second siren – to daven.
Shabbat Shalom.
