Victory for Jews in Germany: The German prosecutor's office announced today (Thursday) that it has decided to close the case against the rabbi of the community in Berlin, Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel suspected of causing risk to his son allegedly having circumcised according to the custom of Israel.
Investigation was opened following a complaint filed against Hagaon Teichtel six months ago by a German activist about Circumcision, mouth sucking, at the Great synagogue of the community.
Investigation against Rabbi finally closed for lack of evidence.
German operator joined two other complainants who complained to the State Attorney's Office against Hagaon Teichtel claiming he allegedly risked his newborn son when he did the mouth sucking, which contradicts, they argue, the medical hygiene rules.
Complaints were also filed against the baby's grandfather, Rabbi Yochanan Gurary, Chief Rabbi of Holon, and against the mohel Rabbi Menachem Fleischman.
After filing complaints, one of the Rabbis of Eastern Europe interviewed with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung and publicly criticized the act of Hagaon Teichtel. Criticisms included the investigation material and aroused great concern among German Jews of consolidation of a lawsuit against the community rabbi in Berlin, following public criticism that plays against rabbi in Israel.
In recent years, the Jewish community in Germany is struggling for the continuation of circumcision in the country. Recall, a year and a half ago German court in Cologne was against the law because a baby was circumcised. The problem was then to provide a solution through the German parliament which passed a law - the 'Bondstag' - with support from Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Following the closure of the investigation against him says Hagaon Teichtel: "This is good news not only for me but for the entire Jewish community in Germany".
"In a week we will all celebrate the Jewish victory of Chanukah. In essence this is exactly the same as then, as now, religious rights of our basic outweighed those who try to undermine them. This place also thanks the many supporters, especially Rabbi Eliezer Kestenbaum, lawyers and Jewish community leaders in Germany, who encouraged me and helped me along the way. "
Rabbi Menachem Margolin, CEO RCE welcomed the closure of the investigation: "We are in the last great war fronts on religion in Europe, both in terms of topics, and in terms of number of countries. Fortunately, both government level and legal level in Germany do not give marginal factors to harm the basic religious rights of Jews in the country. In this respect Germany is a country, for example, and therefore it was proper that other countries will learn from it. "
