Waiter took revenge: "Hassidim do not usually leave a tip"

The kosher prestigious restaurant waiter at Prime Grill used to charge 20 percent more for a pair of Hassidim without notifying the owner.

The Hassidim spread the word and the restaurant owner fired the waiter within 24 hours.

In his defense the waiter argued that since the Hasidic diners do not usually leave a tip, so he found a way to charge them 20 percent, double what is customary at other restaurants, and which he added automatically to the receipt.

But it turns out that the couple noticed the huge receipt they received from the waiter and complained about him. The waiter explained that it is acceptable to charge at fancy restaurants. When they returned to their home they published the story to their friends and network and approached the owner of the restaurant.

The result was that the prestigious restaurant owner was quick to apologize and clarify that Hasidim are certainly welcome in the restaurant and the waiter confessed and was fired immediately.

The restaurant owner Joe Elham returned the "inflated tip" to the credit card holder, and the amount of the couple's dinner will be donated to the organization to which the couple regularly contributes.

The restaurant owner said that on the computer software there is indeed an option to add an invoice tip of 20 percent, in the event that there is a group of six people. The waiter apparently used this option.

He said the program software was changed immediately and only the restaurant manager who has a special code can add an invoice tip.

"As soon as we learned the case," said restaurant owner said, "We investigated, and we fired the waiter. He works with us only two months; it goes without saying that every person is desirable in our restaurant and treated uniformly."
