Greenberg and Montag with commander of police station in Beit Shemesh
At a meeting on Monday this week, at the police station commander's office in Beit Shemesh, it was agreed that the police will increase safety in Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel with the first occupancy, due to fear of many construction zones and illegal workers residing in the new neighborhood.
The meeting, which was initiated by Deputy Mayor Shmuel Greenberg, and also attended by alderman and chairman of the planning and construction committee Moshe Montag, was following the concern of the families who bought their home in the new neighborhood, that the presence of hundreds of families in the area of building sites and workers, may lead to theft and destruction of property, as already happened in places that were in a similar situation at the beginning of occupancy within a construction area.
Deputy commander of Beit Shemesh police station, Superintendent Shlomi Bechar, summoned to a meeting the operations officer and intelligence officer of Beit Shemesh station.
Greenberg noted at beginning of the meeting, that each neighborhood has its occupancy rate, but the neighborhood of Ramat Beit Shemesh Gimmel is characterized in that it is detached from other neighborhoods, and therefore the need to increase police patrols in the neighborhood is an existential need. According to him, intelligence activity or reviewing the visas of construction workers who work in the neighborhood, is necessary as well.
Chairman of the Planning and Construction Moshe Montag, laid out to the participants the map of the new neighborhood, and presented the programs of populating the neighborhood, according to construction progress in each and every project. During the discussion he also gave an overview of other neighborhoods around, such as RBS Daled, the "Glasses neighborhood" and "M3 neighborhood".
The commander of the police station concluded on a tour which will be held in the new neighborhood, along with representatives of the public, in order to study closely the face of things, how to increase safety in the neighborhood. He also proposed to fence the projects which have not yet reached occupancy, and to place workers within the limits of a defined area.
The police chief also expressed his willingness to hold a joint meeting with all contractors who build in RBS Gimmel, to determine disagreements about construction workers whom they employ.
It was agreed that the police will allot patrol cars for the new neighborhood and will already begin to increase patrols in the neighborhood, thus increasing the personal safety of the neighborhood and those who visit it.
