Hundreds of people led by leading rabbis, Hasidic Rebbes, businessmen and politicians, gathered last weekend at the luxurious Hilton Hotel in New Jersey for the 91st annual conference of the Agudath Israel Association of America. Participants stayed at the hotel for a long weekend - starting on Thursday afternoon to Sunday morning.
In the conference, burning issues on the agenda were discussed, including the increase in population and the ravages of technology, and in addition there were discussions, symposia and workshops on livelihood, shiduchim, financial support of Torah and Chessed institutions and more.
On Thursday night was the first panel that focused on education, entitled "How can we ensure a better future for our children?" Hundreds listened to Rabbi Avromie Hirsch who opened the panel, with the head of Mir Yeshiva in Flatbush Rabbi Eliyahu Brodnie, Rosh Yeshiva of Darchei Torah in Rockaway Rabbi Yaakov Bender, and mashgiach at the Beis Midrash Elyon Yeshiva in Lakewood - Rabbi Matisyahu Salomon. The rabbis discussed the issue at length and focused on how to connect the young generation, to ensure the continuity of all Klal Yisroel in the traditional way.
Komemiyut Av Beis Din, Rabbi Moshe Mendelson, attended the conference on behalf of the Keren Hashvi'is Foundation and gave his main speech at Shalosh Seudos time to hundreds of participants. For a long while he spoke about the preparation of Keren Hashvi'is and the timely and halakhic sugyos brought before the president of Keren Hashvi'is Hagaon Rabbi Yisroel Yitzchok Mendelson, Av Beis Din Komemiyut.
On Motzaei Shabbos, the memory of Hagaon R' Ovadia Yosef zt"l was marked Hagaon Rabbi Yosef Harari Raful, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Ateret HaTorah and member of the Torah Sages Council, and a perspective of the world of Torah in Israel was presented, entitled "The unprecedented attack on the Hareidi public in Israel" by the head of Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, Hagaon Rabbi Eliezer Yehuda Finkel.Photo: Adelman Image, Hillel Engel
