Dozens of people were killed today (Sunday) afternoon's plane crash in Russia: the plane had 44 passengers and six crew members. By most accounts, everyone who was on the plane – was killed, however, several reports claim that there were some survivors.
The plane came to Kazan at 15:25 (local time). Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said the plane was on its way from Moscow to the city of Kazan and crashed on landing.
Kazan's Rabbi and Chabad emissary Rabbi Yitzchak Gorelik, established an information center in the synagogue in the city center, to treat inquiries and helping the needy. For now, it is not known that Jews were amongst the injured.
When news of the disaster came, Rabbi Gorelik was in the crash area. According to him, there is stormy weather at the scene, including very strong winds, and that this may have caused the disaster.
