Even in New York: special budgets which were supposed to be delivered to yeshivas and Talmud Torah in New York, frozen for several months. Because of the freeze, teachers and suppliers have not received salaries and yeshivas cave under the burden.
These are unique budgets provided for students whose parents are on the low income family list, and which recently discontinued. Director Talmud Torah in Borough Park, who requested anonymity, said that "Today almost all Talmud Torah lives off these budgets, since at least half of the children of the Talmud Torah in Borough Park are defined as low-income families. Unannounced, budgets have stopped recently. Instead, we began to receive frequent visits by inspectors by the office to check the presence of the children.
Besides, the heads of the institutions complain that in recent years, no more childreb were added to the funding list.
Haredi Senator, Rabbi Simcha Felder, is trying to resolve the situation. He brought together the directors of institutions with relevant department heads. Meeting was also attended city council members David Greenfield and Steven Leven.
One of the participants, was encouraged by the meeting and said that "the heads of institutions has been given an opportunity to explain the allegations brought against them by heads of government, including complaints about the lack of reporting."
According to Felder, the meeting achieved its goal, and the money will be released in the coming days.
