Rabbi Yoram Abergel released to house arrest

Rabbi Yoram Abergel was released to house arrest, but was removed from Netivot: in a hearing held today (Sunday) in Rishon Letzion, the court decided that the rabbi will be released to house arrest until Thursday, but a restraining order was imposed on him from his town of Netivot.

Following the decision, the Rav will be at his lawyer's home in Givat Shmuel.

After release, Rabbi Abergel called on all his students across the country, to return to school to the seder at yeshivos and kollelim, and do hold or perform any meeting or demonstration. The Rav said to the radio station Kol Barama: "Our way is the way of peace and unity, and even if one sees a man belonging to the other side, just hug and kiss him with ahavat yisrael."

The Magistrate's Court judge in Rishon Lezion, Menachem Mizrachi, extended the arrest of Shalom Domrani, assistant to Rabbi Abergel Emanuel Elisha and Avner Abergel, until Wednesday. The court also extended the arrest of Avi Turi and Momi Kasantini.

According to police sources, the affair is not fading off, and a real development is expected in the coming days.

Before the hearing, attorney Menachem Rubinstein, Rabbi Abergel's lawyer, spoke with Behadrey Haredim, and said, "The Rav will be released today. The police agree to that. But there is a debate between us, the police wants to keep the Rav away from Netivot for 15 days. But we will fight for it that it would not be prohibited for the Rav".

Last Wednesday the Magistrate Court ordered to release Rabbi Abergel home, but the police filed a stay of execution and appealed to the District Court - that overturned the decision and extended his detention for four more days.

The suspicion is that Rabbi Abergel activated the offender Shalom Domrani to threaten Rabbi Yaakov Ifergan, 'the X-ray', in order to prevent him from supporting Eyal Messika in the race for mayor of Netivot against Yehiel Zohar, who won the support of Rabbi Abergel.

Meanwhile, at 13:30 four suspects will be brought to court for remand - three adults and a minor - who participated in the demonstration yesterday at Bar Ilan on suspicion of rioting and assaulting police officers under aggravated circumstances.

The arrest of Shalom Domrani, Avner Abergel, assistant to the Rav Elisha Emanuel, Momi Kasantini and Avi Vittori, was extended by the Magistrate's Court in Rishon Lezion judge Menachem Mizrachi, until Wednesday the 20:11:13. In the decision the Judge noted that "the investigative unit has a few investigative actions and one should enable it to carry them out."
