New Covenant: Lieberman and Lapid against haredim

A new covenant emerges out of collaboration and working closely in recent months between the two parties with the most common denominator in the coalition: Israel Beiteinu and Yesh Atid.

Journalist Ze'ev Kam from Ma'ariv, reported that this alliance officially went on its way after it became clear that Lieberman won in court, and it was clarified that he returns to the center of politics. Unlike the alliance between the Jewish Home and Yesh Atid, which is mainly between the leaders of the parties, in this case it is the close cooperation and summaries that exist between the various Knesset members of both parties and the chairmen.

"We have very similar views, especially in matters of religion and state which are the main issues at the moment," said a senior in Yesh Atid to Ma'ariv. Anyone who did not see the members of Yesh Atid bravely defending Lieberman against attacks of MKs from the left during his inauguration week at the Knesset as Foreign Minister, did not see what an alliance is. The frequency of meetings between Lieberman and Lapid and chairman of Yesh Atid, MK Ofer Shelah (separately, has become particularly high recently.

The list of planned cooperation between the two parties is long - the first of which is the subject of recruiting haredim.

Shelah and MK David Rotem, representatives of the party at the Shaked Committee, are fully coordinated, including the subject of criminal sanctions.

The Governance Law is the next project of the two parties, which intend to haul it together. The emerging law principles were directly agreed upon by Lieberman and Shelah in meetings held by them. Ronen Rotem and MK Hoffman are responsible for the execution itself.

According to the report, other issues which are already on line, are civil marriage and public transportation on Shabbos. Both parties are talking about agreements on those issues. Even on the political issue Yesh Atid see Israel Beiteinu as close to them in contrast to the Jewish Home. "In the previous government Lieberman was the rightist," says a senior in Yesh Atid, "but now he is arriving at the Foreign Ministry in a different way, when the Jewish Home are those that are considered to mark the rightists in the government."

Coordination between the two parties is so great, that a summary was reached by them, that if Netanyahu will force the appointment of MK Hanegbi as Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, representatives of the Israel Beiteinu in the Knesset committee will not vote in favor of the appointment.

Yesh Atid chose not to deny things. Shelah responded to Ma'ariv, "For the last half year, mainly as a result of joint work in the Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee, good working relations and faith were created between me and Yvette, that connect to partnership interests in many areas, both in religion and state and the work of the coalition."
