This week a yeshiva bochur, who has been suffering for a long time from a health problem, came in to Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman. The bochur said he had come to get a brocha.
R' Aharon Leib replied: "Put the peyos before your ears, and in this zchus you will be healthy."
When the bochur responded that he is ashamed of his friends who would mock him if he would take his sideburns out – R' Aharon Leib said: "Do not be ashamed, and be healthy".
Meanwhile, Hagaon Rabbi Matisyahu Salomon, mashgiach of Lakewood, sent this week to ask R' Aharon Leib Steinman what he thought about what he recently hears from people who think to save their children who dropped out, by enabling them wholeheartedly and with love to do as they please. The mashgiach also said that consultants believe that when children see the love of their parents, they would slowly repent - and asked: Is this the right way?
R' Aharon Leib replied that there is no heter to be "mesye'a lidvar aveira", even if they know that by this they would repent.
Regarding the mere claim that by proving their love to their children - it will bring them back, R' Aharon Leib asked: If this is such wonderful advice - so, why did they drop out in the first place? If lechatchila they acted with love and warmth and did not reject them?!
