Terrorist attack in Afula: Private Eden Atias, 19, from Upper Nazareth, was killed in a stabbing attack this morning (Wednesday) in Afula, on his way to the army base.
Preliminary specifications indicate that the soldier went on bus no. 823 departing from Upper Nazareth to Tel Aviv and on its way passed at the central bus station in Afula. Suddenly a young Palestinian, resident of Jenin, aged 16, named Hussein Jawarda, attacked the soldier and stabbed him.
Passengers were able to take over the stabber, took him off the bus and handed him over to police.
Tal, witness of the stabbing attack in Afula, told Army Radio in an interview that she passed next to the bus and that "people started shouting 'terrorist' and was a big commotion. The terrorist tried to escape but the police managed to catch him."
The soldier was stabbed all over his body, and had severe bleeding in his upper body. He was taken to the Ha'emek Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to witnesses, the soldier was dozing while the terrorist suddenly attacked him.
MDA paramedic Hadar Bachar and senior paramedic of MDA Nati Liani, who were first on the scene, said: "We arrived at the place very quickly, people took us into the intercity bus which stopped to take on passengers on one of the platforms at the Afula central bus station.
"On the bus, in one of the seats near the back door, sat a soldier, stabbed with multiple punctures and cuts all over his body, he groaned in pain and his condition was extremely harsh, the difficult condition demanded to quickly get him to the operating room, we gave him first aid on the scene and moved him to the mobile intensive care unit and during medical treatment evacuated him to the trauma room at Ha'emek hospital, where he was transferred to the operating room."
After lengthy resuscitation and surgery, doctors were forced to determine the soldier's death. The soldier's injuries were critical. He was stabbed in the heart and major blood vessels.
The knife with which the Palestinian stabbed the soldier was found, and the terrorist was taken to hospital due to injuries to his body. According to the terrorist, he did so as a protest against the imprisoning of his family in Israeli prisons. These are two of his cousins - one is Muhammad Jawadra, sentenced to three life sentences for the murder of two Israelis Cartiso Radicov and Amos Mantio z"l, and for attempted murder, and the other was sentenced to 12 years for attempted murder.
Commander of the Northern District, Commander Roni Attia, said that the police did not have specific warnings about the attack in Afula. "There are general warnings all the time."
